“My parents were told it was just a “phase” I was going through by pediatricians…..”
The Preferred Kalamazoo Chiropractor

Dr. Kevin Tarnow

“When I continued to suffer low back pain as an 11 year-old, following a collision while playing little league baseball game. My dad had to literally carry me into the chiropractor’s office where Dr. Maurer diagnosed and treated me for a pelvic subluxation. I’ll never forget that first adjustment and how almost instantly pain and pressure was removed from my back. I can remember Dr. Maurer listened to m e and explained my x-rays to me. Later, while attending Western Michigan University and participating in karate class, I developed upper-back and shoulder pain. The sports medicine doctors at the university health center recommended surgery. My mom said to call the chiropractor. After getting relief for this injury, I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor.”

Dr. Tarnow began his pre-chiropractic education at WMU and KVCC where he studied the basic sciences such as organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biology, along with human physiology and anatomy courses.

After graduating from WMU, he was accepted at the National College of Chiropractic, Lombard, Illinois. During his four years at NCC, courses included biochemistry, clinical nutrition , with a major emphasis on human anatomy and physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the National College public clinic in Lombard. While completing his internship he had the unique challenge of treating the clinic director’s wife for headaches. “At first I was a little nervous, she had never been treated at the clinic, or by a student intern. I learned to trust my training and we got great results.” While in Chicago, Dr. Tarnow was fortunate to further his chiropractic training by attending motion palpation workshops presented by Dr. L John Faye. “It was a great opportunity to learn directly from a true pioneer in chiropractic.”

After graduating in 1989 Dr. Tarnow moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to work with his brother Greg, also a chiropractor. “The four years I worked with my brother were very rewarding and I gained valuable clinical experience by treating many challenging cases.”

Dr. Tarnow returned home to Kalamazoo in 1994 to establish his own practice. “Whenever, I came home to visit, people would always ask me where to go to discover high quality natural healthcare. I knew it was time to come home.”

Our goal is to offer a state –of- the- art chiropractic care with an emphasis on prevention and early detection of spinal issues. “I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. So we make it as point to explain everything in advance and answer questions. Patients appreciate that. I’ve found that educated patients not only understand their problem better but respond faster to treatment.”

“Patient’s are surprised when I tell them that I’m a patient too!” I get adjusted every 2-4 weeks, if not more often. “I tell all new chiropractors that in order to care for others you must take care of yourself.” In addition to regular chiropractic care Dr. Tarnow believes “consistent cardiovascular and resistance training exercise, along with a diet packed with fresh veggies, whole grains, water and nutritional supplements is vital for enjoying a healthy life.” “We focus on prevention and wellness to help empower patients to make better health choices, everyone wants to feel better and live longer.”
